In the depths of this past winter, I received and email from the Ronahans in PEI that they were renting out Grammie B's cottage this summer. Now, those of you who know me best know I love French River, so the news was exciting. I booked right away and sent in a deposit. Finally, it was time to go this past weekend. At the last minute, I invited Tim to join me and he did. I took a vacation day on Friday, picked him up at noon and we were off.
A stop at Mammoth (tacky) Ridge provided a snack and a pit stop for the Hound and we didn't stop again until Gateway Village for a Cow's fix. Then we stopped in Kensington where we picked up a few groceries. While in line to pay, an accented couple were behind us and Ms. Fancy held up a bottle of Club Soda and said, "is this what we use to make gin and tonics?" A resounding "no" in stereo from Tim and I, and he went and helped Mr. Fancy go find tonic. Tim said later, "I just love that we look like people who would know how to make Gin and Tonics!" We bought good stuff like crackers and cheese and fruit and Pirate cookies and chips.
French River. No matter what changes in my life, it manages to stay mostly the same (sand shifts a bit every time). After a quick hello to Cathy and her family, we headed to the beach where we found starfish, a crab doin' the hustle and a couple of hermit crabs. Then, it was totally come what may. Hungry? Pull out a snack. Thirsty? Pull out a beer (or get Tim to make you a G& T...which would be why I look so happy in Pic #1). Cathy joined us for great conversation (that's me and her in the picture...I met her when I was an RA at UPEI) and Saturday night Joline and Marc stopped by for snacks and drinks on the deck. Sunday I was a bit bleary as Macy Mae Louise Sanchez decided we needed protecting and barked at every stinkin' little sound, but we managed to enjoy coffee and tea in the sun before packing up, grabbing Cathy and heading to Cavendish. There, we met up with one of my oldest and dearest friends with whom I (quite literally-we met in kindergarten) grew up with. Ross and his family lived sort of across the street from our family. So great to spend time with him and Patrick!
Late Sunday afternoon it was back to the Valley. A flash trip by vacation standards, but man, it made my summer.

Ahh...PEI! It always feels like I'm going home when I go back. It's the different pace of life I love so much (and the lifelong friends I made there that got my heart). Sorry we couldn't stay longer. Would have been nice to stroll and chat by the beach...
