Saturday night I met up with my gal pals Darlene and Alison in Halifax. We headed for the waterfront for dinner at the Lower Deck and then joined the crowds on the waterfront to catch some buskers. Halifax fascinates me-it is a most excellent place to people watch-there was one old guy getting his picture taken with two feather-festooned ladies from the casino and a lot of punkers trying to "find themselves" with tattoos and piercings and really strange hair. We caught an act called the Ariel Angels and they were pretty funny with their commentary and antics of acrobatics and contortionist moves. We saw part of another act about Extreme Martial Arts that was a little more than corny, so we moved on. I never did get my palm read...there was too big of a lineup. But I did have a BeaverTail :)
I had received an invitation in the mail a couple of weeks ago inviting me to Scott and Mike's Back Porch Pig Roast, and Sunday was the day. Back Porch my ass-you should see their amazing award winning deck. Something straight out of Home and Garden!

It was a lovely affair. As you can see in the photo, the guest of honour was dressed to kill and he tasted amazing! Scott and Mike are wonderful hosts..I think there were about 100 guests...and a good time was had by all. It was a lovely way to spend a summer afternoon (an anomaly here in the Valley, these days). Roast pork and salad and wine, oh my.
Speaking of pork, my hair stylist Elaine Porter and her family have opened up a Farm market on Belcher Street (if you used to buy cider at a place on the left travelling from Kentville to Port Williams, that's it). They sell the pork and chicken they raise on their farm as well as the vegetables they grow in their garden and bread baked just for them and milk and cheese and stuff. There are pork cuts and sausages and bacon and apple wood smoked chops. They are another farming family that have been hit hard in recent years and they are trying a different angle. So please, if you are looking for local stuff, stop in there. There is a sign and a NS flag by the road.
