Did you hear that? It was the sound of me kicking November's Ass. It is just flying by. And that makes me happy.
My mom was here this weekend and we made the most of it to be sure. The events are out of order because there was so much happening I can't keep it all on a straight time line! Macy and I took a drive to Digby to pick her up on Friday and we came home to (ahem) homemade lobster chowder (first time I had made it and it turned out fabulous). After dinner we stopped into Occasions (great little gift shop...Nat and Andrea have done a great job with this store) and came out with matching stainless steel water bottles. Saturday morning was leisurely and comfy and then we made a Frenchy's run where I picked up a few books and some "things" for Macy and a yoga top and a velveteen Gap skirt. We also went to the Designer Cafe in town for latte (thought of you, Jo!)...Doug makes the absolute best lattes. That afternoon we picked up Evelyne and went out to the Somerset Craft Fair at CK. I found a fabulous plaid coat for Macy made out of fleece...she of course, was not as enthused, but too bad. She will appreciate it later this winter. That evening we travelled to Berwick to have dinner together at Union Street. Sunday, the intended day of her departure, she got a call to tell her the boat was not running due to high winds so we got an extra day together and we went to see Frozen River (great flick) at the Al Wittle in Wolfville and picked up a pizza for dinner. I did go into work Monday morning, but got off at noon to drive Mom to Digby. We made it with not a moment to spare...we had lingered over lunch at the cafe on the corner in Kentville! And then Macy and I rushed back because I had a Book Club gathering to attend.
The weekend together was our Christmas gift to each other. Time. And it doesn't have to be wrapped or shipped! I am liking this new arrangement...we agreed it was the best gift and I can see it becoming an annual tradition. Sounds crazy, but not having a TV and cancelling the flyers and having CBC Radio Two on instead of mindnumbing local stations has sort of insulated me from the franticness of the impending holiday and has enabled me to focus on what is truly important. And I like it. A lot.
