Crash Test Mommy

On Friday night, I starred in my very own episode of Crash Test Mommy. For Christmas this year, I gave my friend Evelyne and her husband Paul (because they have been so insanely good to me this past year)an evening of Time Together. That is, I whisk the kids away for the night and bring them back in the morning. Well. What a time we had!

They were pretty excited as they left their house with Princess suitcases in tow (yes, they each had their own!). We came to my place and I set them up with a box of my old Barbie stuff while I got stuff organized so we could make our own pizzas for supper. Glad I kept those Barbies-what a hoot to paw through that stuff! They were ravenous when those poor kids finally ate at 7pm and the lateness of the hour meant we'll have to save the s'mores for another time-we had a few Hershey kisses for dessert instead-but they had fun putting all the cheese they wanted on their 'zas...those kids LOVE cheese.

It was easy to convince them to put on their PJs (and yes, Tarwyn would too) once we set up the living room for movie watching. Check out the pic of the girls brushing their teeth (matching toothbrushes and bubblegum flavoured toothpaste)...too cute! All of us settled onto the couch (Macy included) and proceeded to watch The Little Mermaid Two-Return to the Sea (did you know Ariel had a baby?!) with a big bowl of popcorn. Little Ollie fell asleep and had to be carried to bed after Emily and I rounded out the evening with a few stories in the Big Green Chair (my old story books from when I was a kid...a little musty, but some golden oldies were enjoyed).

Evelyne had sent along glo-sticks for the girls (Emily had to show me how to make them work) and I set up my little turtle lamp as a nightlight and all of us slept in my bed in this order: Me, Ollie (her Puppy), Emily (her blue elephant) and Macy on top of the puppy pile. Ollie only woke up once with a little twittering, but a walk around the house and a rocking chair lulled her back to sleep. Those kids slept until 7:30!

And then we were off to McDonalds for breakfast :) Cancakes for the girls, a #2 combo for me. There were two false alarms for a pee break (thank goodness Emily can hold her own now at the table-she was SO AWESOME about this!-apparently Ollie has this thing for public washrooms) and a lot of maple syrup on the table and some time in the play room (and a large coffee for Tarwyn). When we got back out to the Santa Fe, I was alarmed to see I had left the lights on. Got the kids packed in and then myself only to discover the truck was RUNNING...note to self...don't let Ollie play with the keys at the breakfast table anymore. God only knows how long it had been running!

Things were hunky dory until Ollie said, "we go to your house, Tarwyn" and I replied, "Sorry Ollie-we are going to your house" and she became Crab Girl. But only a little crab...more like a baby crab without claws...she just wasn't very happy. We made it back to Charles Street to bring them back to a set of blissfully rested parents.

All in all, a very fun time. And I survived!

And the parents were soooooo happy that it went great, soooooo happy about the break and a little jealous about the sleeping through until 7h30 thing! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! Oh, and in case that wasn't clear, thank you!

Too sweet. You are such a gem. Wish we had a Tarwyn once in a blue moon. (we did get a few hours last weekend when Nicholas went to a B-day party and we grabbed the opportunity to go out for supper). A guilt-free escape was really nice.

Oh I remember the days of sleep overs with those special little Peeps...i did that a lot in Calgary, a long tie ago...I can't believe you still have all your old stuff!!!!! I guess that's what a house fire does...did you save it ALL or just a few special things?!? This was so fun to read, thanks Taryn!
