The Trails at Black Rock

OK. So one of my "summer goals" has been to do more hiking with the hound. Sunday we checked out the Black Rock trail system. It starts right behind the Black Rock community center.

Lovely, lovely hike! I think the pictures speak for themselves:

We started off at the trail head (new mountain biker term!) and I decided to follow the Black Rock Trail to try to find the shore. It is really well marked to the point where there are "wrong trail" signs with a big x through them when you come to a t in the path.
And there are even metal signs that identify different species of plants and trees.

A good hour passed by and all of a sudden there was a change in the air. I knew the shore was near. A steep decent and ta da! I saw the scene in the last picture. I took the advice of the sign that was posted and decided not to continue along the Shore Trail. We took a breather at the shore and then headed back. Poor Macy. She had a grand time, but she was POOPED at the end.

The sun made everything all dapply and it was nice and cool. We saw toads and birds and (much the the hound's delight) a few squirrels. I just love being in the woods...it makes me all Zen and such.
