Kickin' November's Ass

Yay! It is Friday. And we are almost halfway through November! I have to say, the weather has been absolutely fantastic this week and that has helped improve my feelings of my least favourite month of the year. Leaves are all done (except for those pesky ones that blow over from the neighbour's lawn...) and next in line is the pile of wood in the driveway. Hopefully, the nice weather will continue in to the weekend so I can get a good start on chucking it into the basement.

Last Friday I was in Saint John playing nurse for my mom. She had surgery for breast cancer last Thursday (good news: no lymphatic involvement) and I went across the Bay to take care of her. I was the gatekeeper (which meant answering the phone and taking messages and giving progress reports), chief cook and bottle washer.

As my gal pal Jenn says, food equals love and so I made healthy meals for her and stocked the freezer full of prepared foods so all she had to do when I went back was thaw and heat. Saturday I needed to re-stock, so I took a few hours and went to the Saint John City Market. It is just across the Loyalist Burial Ground from her apartment. I discovered this unique fountain Irving put up when they restored the grounds, I was really impressed with it.

And here is a shot of the market....you can read more about it here. What a terrific place....been there FOREVER and you can find everything from
fruit to meat to seafood to cheap Chinese trinkets to expensive wine. I went and got myself a Java Moose coffee and wandered up to Brunswick Square and low and behold, I found a red leather purse. I did the old, "can you keep this behind the counter for me for an hour?" and went back to the market to buy some stuff and mull over the purchase. And I then I went back to Manchester's and bought it. Oh Yes, I did!
I said, "Happy New Job to Me!" and was practically giddy.

I was happy to help my Mom even tho it was with trepidation that I went because, well, it is breast cancer. But everything went well and I was happy to be there for her and I know she appreciated it muchly. And I found my red leather purse :)

Taryn,
I'm glad your Mom's surgery is behind her and she can focus on getting better. I am sure she appreciated the treats in the freezer and is reminded of how much she is loved every time that microwave dings!
The St John Market was a step back...way back! in time for me. I lived there over 30 yrs ago and remember visiting the market.

Hugs to you for helping your Mom!
