This is a picture of us taken on the day that we found out we are expecting. Yes, you heard me. We are expecting! The due date is April 25th, 2011. I'll let you get back into your chair, now.
We didn't tell anyone until after we had the early ultrasound just to be sure everything was OK before spilling the beans (because, as you may or may not know, I am of "advanced maternal age") but once that was done at 12 weeks, we started telling people. Everyone is excited and happy for us. All I can say is that it is a darn good thing God gives you 9 months to get used to the idea because it is going to take that long for me to wrap my head around the concept. We have an awesome doctor here at home and I also get some attention from the folks at the IWK so we feel we are in good hands.
I'm 17 weeks today and feeling great. I didn't experience any morning sickness (what?! The kid must take after Troy-he is the relaxed one) and am just now starting to see the hint of a bump. I've been really tired (just...could...not...pull myself off the couch last night) but I've also just finished a stint of driving to the city every day for five weeks for French language training. That meant getting up every day at 5:15 to be able to get out the door and get ahead of the traffic to be able to get to class for 8:30. When class was over at 3:30, it was a rush to get out of the city. SO GLAD I don't have that commute anymore. It was a great course and I learned how to at least put a sentence together, but I am glad it is done. So back to my real job tomorrow...I felt I needed a day off to myself before I go back. No one at work knows yet and I am not relishing the telling as there are a few colleagues who are bound to make comments. Here is a ginormous bowl of raspberries for you to suck on, weenies!
We had the opportunity to attend a married couples retreat with a group from the church a a couple of weeks ago and that was really great. It was in Lunenburg and we got to explore the town a little bit. Speaking of church, I'm in the seasonal choir this year and really enjoying singing with a group again. I'm also continuing with yoga and I am glad I can get back to my regular walking schedule with the dog (she was seriously short-changed in the walk department for the past 5 weeks).
Well folks, the time has changed, the spooks have been out and so now the push is on to the Holidays. I suppose I'll have to learn how to play along. Cheers to you and yours as you busily prepare.

What do you mean 9 months to get used to the idea? You'll never get used to it... as soon as you think that you have the "concepts" mastered, there is new one coming straight at you! But that's what makes it thrilling! As for the people at work who may comment, well at least YOU have an excuse for a belly. You should start asking them when they are due... I know it is childish, but look who we are talking about here! You may be surprised too at how much they may tiptoe around a pregnant lady...
ahhh...times sure are changin', these changes are so exciting...married life, a wee baby and lots of love, wonder, joy and breath taking moments to come! I'm so happy for you!
